Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is stepping up its game in the Google TV world, aiming to grab a piece of the growing global market for smart streaming devices. According to a Statista report, this market is expected to grow by 14.7% annually from 2023 to 2030.
To make Google TV even cooler, Alphabet has just spilled the beans on a new feature: an audio switcher. This nifty addition, landing in the Quick Settings menu, lets users easily switch between Bluetooth headphones and their TV speakers without diving into the full settings menu.
This move is expected to make Alphabet a big player among smart TV users. Alongside this audio switcher, Google TV is also rolling out a "Call notifications" option, allowing select apps to send calls to your TV. You can easily turn this feature on or off in the Settings app.
But wait, there's more! Alphabet is beefing up Google TV's content lineup by adding popular apps and services like ABC, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, AMC, and Kocowa. And they're not stopping there – Google TV is now available in more regions, including Brazil, France, Germany, and Japan.
All these efforts are set to boost Alphabet's Google TV offerings, ultimately benefiting the Google Services segment, a major growth driver for the company. In the past year, Alphabet's shares have soared by 56.1%, outpacing the Zacks Computer & Technology sector's growth of 45.1%.
This uptrend is expected to continue, with the Zacks Consensus Estimate predicting total revenues of $283.39 billion in 2024, marking a solid 11.26% year-over-year growth. Earnings are also projected to rise to $6.74 per share, a 15.6% increase from the previous year.
However, the competition is heating up. Alphabet is going head-to-head with industry giants like Apple, Amazon, and Roku, all vying for a slice of the streaming devices market. Apple, for instance, is introducing immersive original stories for Apple TV+, and Amazon is riding high on the success of its Fire TV lineup, partnering with Panasonic to enhance its smart TV offerings.
Despite the tough competition, Alphabet's efforts to enhance Google TV should position it well in the ever-growing world of smart streaming devices. So, keep your eyes on the screen – exciting things are happening in the world of Google TV!
